Mandolins for connoisseurs of handcrafted instruments, and for musicians who want outstanding tone, volume, and playability. Models include: a highly-refined Select model for all styles of playing; a unique light-string model for classical, folk, and Celtic music; a model designed for the jazz enthusiast incorporating dual pickups; and a model engineered and set up for the Bluegrass sound. Other models are available by special order and one-of-a-kind artistic mandolins are occasionally available.

The Phoenix mandolins are built by Rolfe Gerhardt. Rolfe was the builder of the legendary Unicorn mandolins in the 70's and has spent the last forty years applying new musical instrument technologies to the 8-string American mandolin.

2013 was the year of the Neoclassical model. Three-quarters of the Phoenix mandolins built and sold were Neoclassicals. The other significant event of 2013 was the growing relationship with Max and Lauri of Girouard Mandolins just a few hours away in New Hampshire. They have become excellent builders with Max having expertise in CNC programming. Max's handiwork appears in the creation of Phoenix fingerboards, headstock profiles, headstock inlays, and more. For 2014, premium materials are on hand to continue the popular Phoenix models plus a new shipment of high grade figured English sycamore maple will result in a limited edition of a custom light string model built for the D'Addario FW74 flatwound strings.

Teresa Earle, from the Yukon, recently took a course in media creation in nearby Rockport, and she chose the Phoenix mandolin builder as her subject. You can watch her six minute production at: https://vimeo.com/42911389.

The National Music Museum has received Phoenix mandolin #500 (the count includes 149 Unicorns). It is a custom Neoclassical Europa II built to include many of special features Phoenix has developed and inlay work by all the builders who have worked with Rolfe over the years. You can see pictures and read more here. Phoenix, of course, has continued past the 500 mark and has now passed 600.
